Day 1 · Rational and Irrational Numbers

Today let's learn about rational and irrational numbers!

One step at a time

Let's explore today's lesson

4 learning moments

A rational number can be written as a fraction p/q where q is not 0. For example, 1/2, 3, -4/5.

An irrational number cannot be written as a simple fraction! Examples include √2, √3, and π.

A rational number, written as a decimal, either terminates or repeats (like 0.5 or 0.333...). An irrational number never terminates and never repeats.

Activity: Try classifying these as rational or irrational: 0.75, √4, √5, 2/3.
